The President of the Romanian Senate pays an official visit to Combined Air Operations Center Torrejón

The President of the Romanian Senate, Ms. Anca Dana Dragu, welcomed by the CAOC TJ commander, visited the Combined Air Operations Centre.

After welcoming and signing the Unit's Book of Honour, the President was informed by Lieutenant General Fernando de la Cruz about the structure, mission, legal framework and operational situation in the Unit's area of responsibility, highlighting the participation of Romania as a member of the Alliance in the mission of the CAOC TJ.

Next, several examples of the activities in the CAOC TJ area of responsibility in the fulfilment of the collective defence mission among the 18 countries represented at the Centre, were presented to her.

CAOC TJ, under the direct command of a lieutenant general of the Spanish Air Force, has as its main mission to plan, conduct, coordinate, supervise, analyse and report on air defence operations in southern Europe, of the assigned assets to it in peace, following the directives of NATO's air component.

The Spanish Armed Forces are making an important contribution to the mission conducted by this facility. Roughly 120 military personnel are assigned to the CAOC itself, as well as to the National Support Element (NSE) and the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA), which provides permanent support to CAOC-TJ.
