·         The Peacekeeping Brigade of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan was evaluated.

A team led by Germany and composed of two German inspectors, a component of the Spanish Verification Unit (UVE in spanish) and a civilian interpreter-German nationality-, carried out an evaluation of the Vienna Document 2011, from 20 to 24 January, in Azerbaijan.

The Peacekeeping Brigade was evaluated. This Unit was created in mid 2019 and whose main mission is to participate, in cooperation with other countries, in peacekeeping operations outside its borders. In addition, a battalion of the Unit is responsible for providing security to the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan. This Brigade is located on the shores of the Caspian Sea, a few kilometres away from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

The Peacekeeping Brigade has cutting-edge armored mine-protected vehicles that meet the required characteristics and standards in order Azeri units to interoperate with forces from NATO countries in international missions.

Actually, there is currently a company of this Brigade participating in the International Security Assistance Force that the Alliance is carrying out in Afghanistan.

The evaluation team was established on January 20 in Geilenkirchen (Germany), where the German Verification Unit is located. Afterwards, in Azerbaijan, the inspectors carried out the assessment, as established by VD11, for a maximum of 12 hours.

The importance of this assessment lies in that this is the first time that inspectors from NATO countries  entered the Peacekeeping Brigade facilities to check their capabilities and operability.
