The Army starts a new training course for members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces

•  The Academy of Engineers teaches a new module on humanitarian demining, while the Army Geographic Center trains Ukrainian military personnel in cartographic production and geospatial information.

Within the framework of the European Union Military Operation in Support of Ukraine (EUMAM-UA), the Army Geographic Center (CEGET) has started the seventh specific training module on the production of geospatial information -Vector Geospatial Data TM-. With this edition, CEGET completes one year instructing Ukrainian military personnel.

The objective of the course is to familiarize Ukrainian military personnel with the vector data model Multinational Geospatial Co-Production Program (MGCP), which is standardized for use in both geospatial information producing organizations and armed forces using this type of information in Western European and North American countries, among others.

The module will also train Ukrainian military personnel in the MGCP data quality control system and tools, as well as in the editing of 1:50,000 scale cartography derived from them.

On the other hand, a new module on Humanitarian Demining has started. The course takes place at the International Demining Center located at the Army Engineer Academy in Hoyo de Manzanares (Madrid). Officers, NCOs and troops of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are taking part in the course.

The objective of this module is to achieve training in the performance of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Level 1 functions, which enable the individual to carry out procedures to locate, expose and, where possible, destroy in situ individual items of mines or explosive remnants of war.

The curriculum conforms to the United Nations international standards contained in the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS), specifically IMAS 09.30, and the assessment protocol (T&EP 09.30/01/2014), which classifies EOD capabilities into various levels.

EUMAM UA, support to Ukraine

This European Union mission aims to contribute to improving the military capability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to effectively conduct military operations, aimed at defending its territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, effectively exercising its sovereignty and protecting the civilian population.

In Spain, these training activities are directed by the Toledo Training Coordination Centre (TTCC) -under the direction of the Operations Command, to which it reports organically- and coordinates its activities with different international structures, not only within the European Union, but also within the framework of multinational agreements.

The TTCC consists of a Headquarters in Burgos, on which depend the Combat Training Unit of Toledo (of a permanent nature and which carries out both basic training and different specific courses) and the Training Modules, which are activated to provide instruction in the specialties requested. These courses take place in the facilities that the Army and the Navy have in various locations throughout the Spanish territory.

The Spanish Armed Forces have extensive experience in training missions for Armed Forces personnel and security forces from other countries, such as Iraq, Mali and Somalia, among others.
