The offshore patrol vessel (BAM) 'Meteoro' has called, from September 24 to 27, at the Nigerian port of Lagos, as part of the deployment of the Coordinated Maritime Presence - Gulf of Guinea (CMP-GoG).
Upon docking in Lagos, the 'Meteoro' received on board the Spanish ambassador to Nigeria, Juan Ignacio Sell Sanz, who, after greeting a representation of the crew on the flight deck, he signed the book of honor.
Subsequently, the ambassador was given a tour around the ship's facilities, during which he was provided with a detailed explanation of the mission and objectives of the BAM's deployment in the region.
Military Cooperation Activities
The BAM 'Meteoro' carried out a PASSEX exercise with the Nigerian Navy ship 'DB Abuya'. This joint training included a crew exchange (X-POOL) between the BAM 'Meteoro' and the Nigerian ship 'DB Abuya'.
The activities continued with an evolutions exercise between both ships, day and night maritime communication exercises and a boarding exercise against piracy in which both ships participated with their respective Visiting and Reconnaissance Troops.
Both ships also conducted an at-sea Underway replenishment exercise and a very light weight Underway replenishment exercise.
In addition, members of the Spanish Navy and the Nigerian Navy carried out a combined diving exercise, which contributed to the strengthening of local operational capabilities. Likewise, a series of lectures on sustainment in the Navy and Predictive Maintenance were given on board the BAM 'Meteoro' to personnel involved in logistical tasks of the Nigerian Navy.
Defense Diplomacy Actions
On the other hand, the commander of the BAM 'Meteoro', joined by the Spanish ambassador to Nigeria and the second ambassador, visited the Western Naval Command (WNC), administrative base of the Nigerian Navy. At the WNC facilities, the Spanish delegation attended a presentation on the capabilities of the Regional Maritime Awareness Capability and the FalconEye Maritime Surveillance System.
The commander also visited, together with the second ambassador, the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, where the analysts highlighted the various cooperation tasks for maritime security implemented by the European Union and Spain, to support and strengthen relations between the two countries in the field of security in the Gulf of Guinea.
