From 30th August until 2nd September, the “Atalaya” patrol boat has carried out training exercises along with the Cape Verdean Guardia Costeira.

The “Atalaya” crew has jointly participated with Cape Verdean Armed Forces in the performance of different exercises both related to medical assistance areas in combat as well as naval boarding operations, with procedures for ship inspection, inner tactical movements and movements in confined spaces. This training has been executed both at sea and in port.

Moreover, during their stay at Saint Vincent island, the Navy´s ship Commander has received the visit of civil and military authorities in Mindelo as part of the deployment´s cooperative security activities.

During their stay in Mindelo, spanish soldiers have also visited the spanish fishing boats working in the area. There, they have been informed of the Spanish Navy presence and activity in West Africa.

After departing from the Mindelo port, “Atalaya” continues its “African Deployment”, being the Côte d’Ivoire the next layover. Throughout this voyage, the Navy´s ship will continue with their maritime security operations and bilateral cooperation programmes in the Gulf of Guinea, where it provides security to the Spanish fishing fleet located in the area.

The Navy´s ships, under the command of the Spanish Defence Staff, will develop this cooperative security mission with the aim of showing the activity and capacity of their ships as essential instruments for National Security; defending Spanish maritime interests in the area (fishing, maritime oil transport); and contributing to conflict prevention in a particularly vulnerable area.

Moreover, thanks to the deployment of Spanish Armed Forces, relationships with other countries are fostered and an intense activity is performed within the framework of the Cooperative Security within the European Union scope.
