Spanish military in the Central African Republic contributes to the training of new military personnel in the country

  • EUTM-RCA mission celebrates, together with the President of the Republic and the Minister for Defense, the Flag presentation ceremony for 438 fresh recruits

In order to celebrate the end of the basic training period (Elementary Training Course for All Weapons), conducted by the Training and Education Pillars of the European Union mission in Central African Republic (EUTM-RCA) with the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) -in which our military personnel are integrated-, a military parade was held early in the morning of March 13 at the Kassai Camp (Bangui).

The purpose of the ceremony was presenting to the Flag of the Central African Republic, all 438 fresh recruits who graduated from the course and symbolically consolidating them as new soldiers.

The ceremony was arranged by EUTM-RCA and presided over by Faustin Archange Touadera, President of the Republic, in the presence of the Minister for Defense, the Ambassador of the European Union to the country, the Chief of Staff of the Central African Army, and the highest police and military officials, as well as international organizations.

As part of the 'Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration' (DDR) project sponsored by United Nations, 272 graduates were former members of armed groups; their integration together with young people who have recently joined the Army has been a success for the training system that EUTM-RCA is implementing within the country.

The Chief of Mission General (MFCDR), Portuguese Brigadier General Paulo Neves de Abreu, addressed the training in which he highlighted the very important role of the Central African youth in the defense of the country's sovereignty. He also underlined the commitment of the European Union and EUTM RCA to continue improving the Central African Armed Forces.

EUTM-RCA Chiefs of Pillars of the Mission and Chief of Staff (COS) colonel Valentin Olombrada Valverde were among the attendees, at the VIP stage.
