A Spanish military man teaches the Civil-Military Cooperation course to officers of the G5 Sahel Joint Force

A Spanish officer from the European Union Training Mission (EUTM) in Mali is responsible for teaching the Civil-Military Co-operation (CIMIC) course to 14 officers from the Headquarters of the G5 Sahel Joint Force within the training programme that the Mission provides to the personnel holding combined command positions.

This is the first course given in 2020 and is being held at the Sahelian Security College (CSS) in Bamako (Mali). The training includes lectures on CIMIC doctrine, the human factor within the operational environment, presence, posture and profile, protection of civilians, children and armed conflict, CIMIC modes of action and interview techniques, among other subjects. In addition, practical workshops are being held on negotiation, project management and area assessment.

A representative of OCHA (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) is also participating, as well as a representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the head of the CIMIC detachment of the Operation "Barkhane".

EUTM Mali Mission

The European Union Training Mission in Mali provides the Malian Army with military training and advice on the chain of command (command and control), logistics and human resources management, as well as international humanitarian law.
