·       The Ministry of Defence, through the Operations Command, has financed the civic-military cooperation project.

The first stone for the construction of the enclosure wall and the sanitary unit of the maternal complex run by the Franciscan Sisters in Koulikoro has already been laid. To this end, on October 25, the Spanish ambassador in Mali, Miguel Gómez de Aranda, who represented the efforts of the Ministry of Defence and of our military deployed at the European Union Training Mission in Mali (EUTM Mali), was in charge of kick-starting the works.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of local and international authorities, both from the Malian government and its armed forces and from the staff of the embassy and the European mission. In addition, women from towns near Koulikoro, such as Kayo, Fegoun or Mafeya, who will also come to the centre built by Spain, also took part.

During the speeches, Malian and European authorities showed their support and gratitude towards the Spanish contingent and the Spanish Ministry of Defence for helping to develop Mali's infrastructure.

After the speeches, the first stone of the construction was placed as a symbol of the beginning of the works. As it is typical of Malian celebrations, a Bambara music group delighted those present with choral chants and drums.
