Eurofighters of the 'Paznic' detachment are certified to conduct missions in Romania
- The Eurofighters of the 'Ala 14' are now fully operational to carry out their task of protecting the eastern flank as part of Operation Persistent Effort
The Eurofighter aircrafts of the 'ala 14' have been certified by the Combined Air Operations Center (CAOC) in Torrejón to carry out the Enhanced Air Policing (eAP) mission within the framework of Operation Persistent Effort, under the operational control of the Joint Operations Command (MOPS).
The certification test consisted on the preparation of all equipment and human resources to be able to take off within a maximum time span of 15 minutes in response to an airspace violation or a divert from the expected trajectory of any aerial device within the Romanian area of responsibility.
During the test, in response to a simulated alarm, the Eurofighters took off within the required period, and then carried out an in-flight interception and identification of one of the allied aircraft simulating a navigation problem for its escort. Subsequently, the exercise included the return to base with the objective of recovering the aircraft and equipment within the established time.
The Eurofighters of the 'Ala 14' , stationed at the Mihail Kogălniceanu air base, contribute to the strengthening of NATO's air defense on its eastern flank by supporting reinforced Air Policing missions. The Spanish participation in this mission shows the commitment acquired by Spain with the Alliance and with the security of the territory of all allied countries.
Persistent Effort Operation
The Spanish contingent deployed at the Mihail Kogălniceanu air base (Romania) is part of the 'Persistent Effort' operation, which also includes the UDAA NASAMS in Latvia, the Patriot battery in Turkey and the 'Tigru' detachment - with the radar of the Mobile Air Control Group (GRUMOCA) - also deployed on the shores of the Black Sea, in Romania.
The participation of Spain in the protection of the eastern flank of allied territory is an example of the commitment acquired by Spain with the Alliance and another example of solidarity with our allies, with whom we share the values that sustain and protect democracy, freedom and world security.
