After months of preparation, soldiers from the Marine Infantry Brigade ‘Tercio De Armada’ have arrived at the ‘General Berthelot’ camp at the Cincu Base in Romania. They are the first members of the Spanish contingent that will participate in the deterrence and defence mission on NATO's eastern flank in Romania.
The main task of this first group of Marines, made up mainly of personnel from the logistics area, is to prepare the facilities where they will establish themselves and ensure the necessary services to facilitate the arrival of the bulk of the Marine Corps force, which will take place at the beginning of November.
With the support of an A400M Air and Space Army aircraft, the Romanian Marine Infantry Force (FIMAR-R-I) transferred the personnel and material from the Rota Naval Base to Brasov International Airport, where they were received by the head of the contingent that had previously deployed to the area.
The Marine Infantry Brigade ‘Tercio de Armada’ will deploy on Romanian territory a Mechanised Tactical Sub-Group composed of more than 200 military personnel and about 40 vehicles, ready to be integrated into a French-led multinational battalion and carry out the assigned mission.
Romania is one of eight Forward Land Forces Multinational Battle Groups deployed along the eastern flank of the Atlantic Alliance to contribute to the deterrence and defence of this area. The activities to be carried out are similar to those already carried out by the Spanish Armed Forces deployed in Latvia and Slovakia. These include the unit's own exercises, as well as those planned, integrated into the Multinational Brigade led by France and those established in cooperation with the Romanian Armed Forces.
