The Ambassador of Spain to Slovakia, Ms Sofía Ruiz del Árbol Moro, has chosen one of her first official engagements in the country to be a visit to the Spanish troops of the Kuchyňa Force contingent - currently deployed at Malacky Air Base - which constitutes the Corps Forward Element (CFE) of NRDC-ESP, under the command of Colonel Juan Carlos Pérez Herrero.
During the visit, Colonel Pérez Herrero briefed the Ambassador on the key aspects of the mission currently being conducted on NATO’s Eastern Flank. He also highlighted the ongoing cooperation between the Spanish contingent and the Spanish diplomatic personnel, with whom they share the responsibility of projecting Spain’s image in Slovakia. Following the briefing, the Ambassador toured the base facilities, where she was able to observe first-hand the living and working conditions of the Spanish service members, engaging in conversations and exchanging impressions regarding their work in this European State.
Before concluding her visit, Ambassador Sofía del Árbol addressed the contingent, expressing her gratitude for their commitment to this mission. She referred to them as ‘the finest representatives of Spain’s commitment and solidarity with peace and security’ - a realnes already echoed by Slovak authorities during her initial approaches.
Through this deployment, Spain reaffirms its firm commitment to cooperative security and collective defence, founded upon close collaboration with its Allies. The joint effort between the Armed Forces and Embassy personnel reflects a shared determination to actively contribute to preserve peace and stability on NATO’s Eastern Flank.
NRDC-ESP Corps Forward Element (CFE)
This operation stands as a clear demonstration of Spain’s active and reliable role within the framework of collective security, in line with NATO’s Deterrence and Defence plans (DDA). Conducted within the area of responsibility assigned to the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps - Spain (NRDC-ESP) Headquarters, the mission reflects our nation’s firm commitment to contributing effectively and sustainably to regional stability along the Alliance’s Eastern Flank.
Through NRDC-ESP and its Corps Forward Element (CFE) deployed on the ground, Spain assumes key responsibilities in strategic deterrence, operational readiness, and multinational cooperation. The presence of the CFE enhances situational awareness and facilitates essential liaison with the military authorities it is been assigned to.
