  •  Personnel responsible for maintenance, supply, transport, and general logistical support perform a crucial role that ensures the high operational readiness of the multinational force led by Spain

Within the framework of the Eastern Flank Land Forces Deployment in Slovakia, the logistics personnel stand out for their essential support to NATO’s Multinational Brigade deployed in the country, under Spanish leadership since June 2024.

From Riecky Base to the area of operations in Kosova, Spanish military personnel in charge of maintenance, supply, transport, and general logistical support carry out a vital daily mission that guarantees the high operational readiness of the Multinational Task Force Slovakia. This has been clearly demonstrated during the certification of this major NATO unit. Thanks to their professionalism, commitment, and organisational capacity, the units on the ground maintain their full combat capabilities available at all times.

Their work is constant, often invisible, yet absolutely critical. Forecasting, coordination with tactical units, and strict adherence to each logistical process enable the Brigade to achieve levels of operational availability well above those normally expected in complex multinational environments.

The cohesion of this multinational brigade is forged not only through training or shared leadership but also through the daily commitment of those who, like this logistics team, ensure that everything works just fine when it is needed most.

Spanish Participation in Slovakia

On 20 January 2024, the Spanish Armed Forces started the progressive deployment of personnel and capabilities in Slovakia. Currently, Spain leads the formation of NATO’s Multinational Brigade and maintains a permanently deployed Multinational Battlegroup in the town of Lešť.

During the first half of 2024, Spanish forces have deployed on the ground and contribute to the deterrence and defence competences required by the Alliance. Since JUL/01/2024, the Spanish Armed Forces have assumed command of NATO’s Multinational Battlegroup in this Eastern Flank country, relieving the Czech Republic.

Joining this NATO effort on allied territory in Eastern Europe are Slovakia, Slovenia, Portugal, and the Czech Republic, who, under Spanish leadership, complete the deterrence and defence capabilities of the Battlegroup. Our nation provides forces and capacities to this mission as part of its commitments to International Security and Defence Organisations.

Spain is a responsible partner and ally, fully committed to NATO’s defence objectives. This deployment of forces, in support of and to reinforce NATO’s forward presence on the Eastern Flank, underscores Spain’s firm commitment, and that of its Armed Forces, to our allies, as well as Spain’s decisive contribution to the Alliance’s deterrence efforts in Eastern Europe.
