Spanish military personnel deployed in Latvia took part in a 5-kilometer race held at Camp Adazi, whose main objective, in addition to promoting physical activity, was to strengthen cohesion and cooperation among the allied contingents that make up NATO's Multinational Brigade in the country.
The sporting event was attended by military personnel from all the countries stationed at the base, whose mission is to protect the Allies' eastern flank. The race was the main event of a day of socialising and celebration, which took place in a relaxed and family atmosphere to celebrate Christmas.
In the competitive section, the Spanish military personnel were the most outstanding, occupying the highest positions in the competition. In the men's category, soldiers Jorge Martínez Tojar and Luis Miguel Martínez Francés, and Captain Alberto Cebollero Lozano, took the top three places, respectively, while soldier Antonia López Serrano was the overall female winner. In addition to these positions, all the Spanish military personnel participating in the event demonstrated their excellent physical preparation.
F/E LVA XVIII: first steps in Latvia
The seventeenth rotation of Spanish military personnel in Latvia, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Jesús Abad Sánchez, began its operational activities in the NATO Multinational Battalion two weeks ago.
This new rotation is made up of units from the ‘Guadarrama’ 12th Brigade, as the base unit, as well as personnel from the Logistics Brigade and Field Artillery Command, among others.
The incoming contingent is now fully integrated into the fulfillment of its assigned mission, with maximum efficiency, thus continuing the legacy of previous rotations and contributing to improving Spain's image abroad and consolidating the Multinational Brigade as a unit committed to its allies in the defense of the eastern flank and, therefore, in the defense and security of Spain.
