- This unit is composed of military personnel from Spain, Slovakia and Canada.
The subordinate units of the newly formed Latvian Multinational Brigade are already working at full strength.
One of them is the Multinational Artillery Battalion (Mn Artty Bn) composed by three batteries (Spain, Slovakia and Canada) which has made its first live fire as a unit, cohesive and prepared.
The Spanish battery, formed by the FDCs (fire direction centre) and the M-109 self-propelled artillery pieces, have carried out effective fire within the joint exercise, being the first milestone of this Fire Group.
The three batteries, located at different points on the manoeuvre field, have managed to coordinate through the Fire Control Centre unit to achieve the simultaneous objectives set effectively, using indirect fire efficiently. They are trained to provide powerful, accurate and timely fire support for the multinational brigade under a single command.
The Canadian battery, with 155mm-calibre M-777 howitzers, can reach with specific ammunition up to 40km.
The Slovaks bring their most modern artillery system called ‘Zuzana-2’. It is a 155mm self-propelled wheeled howitzer with a similar range to the Canadian piece but with a higher rate of fire and more advanced control systems.
The Spanish battery is composed of the veteran M-109 self-propelled tracked howitzer, with a calibre of 155mm, and a range of about 30 km. Thanks to its chains, it is more mobile than its allies in the difficult terrain where it must deploy to support the BattleGroups that make up the Brigade.
The Latvian Multinational Brigade is a further demonstration of the Alliance's commitment to the defence of the Baltic states in the form of the cohesion of the multinational units that deploy and work in this alliance environment at Camp Adazi.
