The eFP X contingent deployed in Latvia has participated in the 'Iron Spear 2022' shooting competition held at the Adazi base. The Spanish crews achieved good results reaching second place in the classification of armoured vehicles with the 'Leopard' tank, and another second place in the classification of mechanised vehicles with the 'Pizarro' infantry fighting vehicle.

The 'Iron Spear' shooting competition is held annually to promote the spirit of improvement and to encourage all crews from member nations to achieve the highest standards of training.

This event consists of shooting a series of fixed targets in the shortest possible time in a daytime environment, followed by a night-time shooting demonstration involving all participating countries. Several NATO member countries such as Spain, Canada, Poland, Germany, Italy and Norway have participated in this 2022 edition.

The mission of the eFP X contingent is to deter any attempt of aggression against Latvian territory. In this way, Spain not only reaffirms its commitment to collective defence, but also makes an effective contribution to national defence beyond its borders.
