The ninth Spanish rotation within the eFP mission in Latvia begins its journey

  • Members from brigade 'Extremadura' XI take over from brigade 'Aragón' I, deployed in Latvia since January

Brigade 'Extremadura' XI has just started a new stage leading enhance Forward Presence (eFP) IX rotation, after the transfer of authority ceremony, which has taken place at Adazi base in Latvia. Troops from brigade  'Aragon' I have been handed over after six months of hard work leading eFP VIII rotation.

This is the third time that brigade 'Extremadura' XI leads the Spanish contingent, the brigade was also deployed on the eFP I rotation in 2017 and eFP V in 2019.

In addition to military authorities of the multinational contingent in Adazi and Riga, the ceremony has been attended by the ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain in Latvia, Susana Cámara Angulo.

During the ceremony, Spanish personnel of the eFP VIII rotation, who have rendered services of outstanding merit or importance, were awarded with different Latvian and Canadian decorations.

The Enhance Foward Presence (eFP) mission aims to maintain deterrence against any aggression against our Baltic allies, through a defensive deployment, and responds to the existing commitment within the Alliance to assist member countries.

NATO Battle Group, in the eFP mission in Latvia, ensures a reliable and effective deterrence against any threat to our Baltic ally, while ensuring its readiness to operate in the defence of Latvia if necessary, showing the strong commitment to the Alliance of the countries that compose it and its multinational character.
