Spanish soldiers deployed at the Enhanced Forward Presence Mission (eFP) have participated in “Reaper Strike”, the first exercise in which the “Battle Group” (BG) of Latvia takes part as a unit.

This training, developed between 30th August and 1st September at the Adazi base, revealed the interoperability capacity of the units from the nine BG nations simultaneously involved.

“Reaper Raider” has simulated a fictitious occupation of Latvia by a different country, involving the activation of the whole BG personnel. After rapid procurement and preparation, the different units were launched at the manoeuvring area next to the base.

Once they took positions and made the relevant inspections, the BG performed manoeuvres for crossing the river at which the enemy forces were sheltered. Spanish Armed Forces were in charge of the mission focused on clearance of obstacles and conquest of one of the bridges through which NATO troops should cross.

Finally, after securing both bridges, two companies – one from Slovenia and another one from Italy- were in charge of taking the “Mayhem” objective, where the last Donovian forces were defending themselves.

Enhanced Forward Presence

eFP is a deterrence and collective defence mission where NATO members in the Baltic region participate though deployment of four multinational battalions in the three Baltic states and Poland. In particular, the Armed Forces have collaborated using means of the Army in the Latvian BG.
