  •  The 12th "Guadarrama" Brigade, the core unit of the Spanish contingent, maintains its commitment to peace and regional stability within the framework of the United Nations

The Spanish Battalion (SPANBATT), integrated into the Multinational Brigade East of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), has carried out its first patrols in its area of responsibility, thus beginning to project peace and stability in this southern region of Lebanon.

During these operational activities, the Spanish military personnel conduct escort and support missions for the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), both day and night, with the aim of contributing to the security of the towns and the local population. Among the main tasks of the Spanish contingent are cooperation with Lebanese units in locating unexploded weapons and ammunition, as well as facilitating the safe return of the displaced population.

Additionally, projects and collaborations are underway with local authorities in various towns, aimed at improving the living conditions of their inhabitants and strengthening cooperation with the community.

BRILIB XLIV, responsible for UNIFIL's Eastern Sector (SECEAST), deploys four battalions from different countries: Spain, India, Nepal, and Indonesia. Its patrols work in close coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701, whose main objective is to maintain the area south of the Litani River under the control and surveillance of the Lebanese Army and UN peacekeepers.

The BRILIB XLIV is mostly made up of personnel from the units of the “Guadarrama” XII Brigade (BRI XII), specifically: components of the BRI XII Headquarters, the Light Protected Tactical Group (GTLP in Spanish) —based on the “Uad-Ras” II/31 Battalion belonging to the “Asturias” 31 Infantry Regiment—, and an engineer unit (UING) from the XII Sapper Battalion. In addition, it has a headquarters unit (UCG) and a communications unit (UTRANS) from the BRI XII Headquarters Battalion, as well as the Base Support Unit (UABA). Also part of the Spanish Brigade are Task Force Alpha (TF-A) of the “Villaviciosa” II/61 Cavalry Group —belonging to the “Alcázar de Toledo” 61 Armored Regiment— and a Surveillance Unit of the XII Field Artillery Group, in addition to the Logistics Unit (ULOG) made up of personnel, mostly from the XII Logistics Group and the 41st Logistics Support Group.

On the other hand, it also has the support of personnel from other units of the Army, the Armed Forces, and the Civil Guard.

Furthermore, as an international contribution, BRILIB XLIV includes a company from Serbia, a section from El Salvador, and seven Brazilian soldiers integrated into its Headquarters.
