The Lebanon Brigade (BRILIB) XLII has carried out the maintenance and repair of a water tank that is vital for maintaining fire-fighting storage and supply capacity.
Spanish military personnel from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have inaugurated two critical infrastructure projects at the Civil Defence Center (CDC) in the Lebanese town of Kleyaa, as part of civil-military cooperation activities supporting the local population, funded by Spain.
In this context, they have carried out the maintenance and repair of the CDC’s water tank, which is essential for ensuring fire-fighting storage and supply capacity. This action enhances the safety of the local community.
The inauguration ceremony of the infrastructure was attended by the head of the CDC in Marjayoun, Anis Abla, and the head of the Protected Light Tactical Group, Lieutenant Colonel Víctor Manuel Carrera Armario, representing UNIFIL.
Through these initiatives, Spanish units reaffirm our country’s commitment, foster peace and stability, and strengthen ties with the local population in southern Lebanon. Additionally, these projects support sustainable development and enhance the quality of life for local communities.
Spain in UNIFIL
The Spanish Armed Forces deployed to Lebanon in September 2006. The bulk of the contingent in Operation Libre Hidalgo is at the ‘Miguel de Cervantes’ base, near the town of Marjayoun where the Spanish-led Sector East headquarter is located. There are also Spanish troops at the mission's headquarters in Naqoura.
There are currently more than 650 Spanish military personnel deployed in UNIFIL to ensure compliance with UN Resolution 1701. Despite the peace agreement signed between Israel and Lebanon last November, the security situation is extremely fragile.
