  • The Spanish contingent continues to improve the living conditions of the population in southern Lebanon

The Commander of the Spanish battalion of UNIFIL Sector East, Lieutenant Colonel Miguel Angel Perez Franco, presided over the inauguration of a water supply project in the town of Sarda. The ceremony was attended by the mukhtar of Kleyaa and Sarda, Joseph Salame, the local parish priest, Father Pierre el Rahi, the mayor, Ghantous Bou Farhat, and other authorities and residents of Sarda.

The project consisted of supplying pipes, water filters, and various materials to improve the water tanks and pipes that supply the town.

In his speech, Salame showed his "affection for the Kingdom of Spain, represented by its soldiers, who are on the ground fulfilling a mission of peace and security" and expressed his gratitude for this project, which will help to maintain public health in the town of Sarda.

For his part, Lieutenant Colonel Pérez Franco thanked the authorities for their presence at the ceremony and for the kind words of the Salame, and stressed that this project is "the continuation of the Spanish efforts that have been made in Sarda since 2007 to provide a quality system that supplies its inhabitants with this precious commodity in their homes". He added that he is confident that this new improvement "will serve to ease the day-to-day life of the town, contributing a bit to Lebanon's economic recovery."

A donation of winter clothing was also made in the town of Aabbassiyeh, in the west of the province of Marjayoun. The material had been given to the Spanish contingent by the Town Council of Benaoján (Málaga, Spain).

Improving the living conditions of the population of southern Lebanon, especially in these times of severe economic crisis, is a constant concern of the Spanish contingent and the entire United Nations Force in Lebanon. With this, Spain keeps its commitment to support the Lebanese society, improving the welfare of the population to contribute to peace and stability in the country.
