Temporary reassignment of Special Operations Task Group (SOTG) deployed in Iraq

•  All SOTG personnel from the International Coalition against ISIS are now in safe locations

Due to the current deterioration in the security situation and given the impossibility of continuing to carry out their assigned tasks, Spain has decided to temporarily relocate the Special Operations Group (SOTG) pending further developments. All personnel are now in safe locations and remain unharmed.

This redeployment was carried out in close coordination and collaboration with the Iraqi authorities, with the support of the Coalition, and while keeping our friends and allies fully informed.

Spain’s commitment to the International Coalition and to Iraq’s stability remains unchanged, but the volatility and fragility of the situation in the region make it necessary to take this decision in order to guarantee the protection of our forces.
