“Orbiter” Spanish Army system has reached 100 hours of flight since its deployment in Iraq, with the aim of providing support to the Operation “Inherent Resolve” from the International Coalition against Daesh in Iraq.

The Spanish unit which operates the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), composed by personnel from the Special Operations Command (MOE, in Spanish) and the Spanish Army Brigade of the Legion, provides service to the contingent´s operational needs since May, when it was deployed in Iraq.

At the end of June the system reached its initial effectiveness, so reaching 100 hours of flight in just two months was a landmark for the team. This team works daily in order to obtain maximum performance from the system´s versatility and mobility, in support of the operations carried out by the Spanish contingent.

“Orbiter” 3B is one of the more advanced RPAS systems in its category, being able to fly for more than 6 hours within a radius of approximately 100 km from its control station.

After this landmark, the unit is still working in order to maintain the intelligence, surveillance and exploration procedures and capabilities within the Operation “Inherent Resolve”. It also gives support to units from the Spanish Special Operations Forces which instruct Iraqi units within the framework of the International Coalition against Daesh Operation.
