A CASA-Nurtanio CN-235 aircraft belonging to the ‘Guardia Civil’ Air Service is based at the Marfil Tactical Air Detachment's facilities at the Blaise Diagne International Airport's 'Escale Aéronautique Commandant LEMAITRE'. Until 15 January, this aircraft and its crew will carry out maritime surveillance missions - known as 'VIGMA' - in the area.
In this context of cooperation between national elements, Tactical Air Detachment Marfil personnel provide multidisciplinary support this ‘Guardia Civil’ mission. To this end, it provides services such as the Air Traffic Support Section (SATRA for its Spanish acronym), which facilitates the movement of equipment and the loading and unloading of the material necessary for the mission, both operational and maintenance. It also provides a maintenance hangar, a Force Protection (FP) and a ROLE-1 medical support, as well as - among other services - all the coordination of refuelling, handling and flight plans, which are managed from the Tactical Air Detachment Marfil with the French Liaison Officer.
The head of the ‘Guardia Civil’ Air Detachment, Captain Jose Manuel Real, thanked Tactical Air Detachment Marfil for its support during the mission in Senegal. The Captain stated that ‘they are essential to guarantee the success of the mission. Their help, both before and during the mission, in all kinds of arrangements, mainly related to ground support, makes our stay much easier, and we have full operability to be on constant alert for any service that may arise’.
